VISION

INTRODUCING

THE HUB

 for Human Impact

La Jolla Country Day School is thrilled to announce our newest academic and institutional initiative: The Hub for Human Impact, a three-story, 20,000-square-foot addition to the heart of campus.

The human-centered learning commons will benefit students of every age by fostering innovation, collaboration, and real-world problem-solving. The Hub boldly empowers Torreys to connect their knowledge to their impact.

This ambitious project will require the support of the entire community to fund, build, and open in the fall of 2026. Over the next several months, we will be asking every family to support our students by making a financial contribution to The Hub for Human Impact. The future starts here, and it starts with all of us.

prepare for tests
–they will prepare to

design the future.

SPACES

SPACES

THE BRIDGE
The standout architectural feature of The Hub is multi-use bridge designed for flexibility, imagination, and community.

COURTYARD
A brand-new courtyard design, anchored by the bridge, will bring generations of Torreys together.

DESIGN AND INNOVATION
The Hub will feature two distinct Design and Innovation (D&I) centers that will foster collaboration between divisions.

COLLABORATION SPACES
The second floor of The Hub is all about collaboration. Multi-use rooms change shape, change subjects, and change with the times.

COMMUNITY HALL
The existing Community Hall will be demolished and reimagined into the third floor of The Hub.

LOWER SCHOOL DESIGN AND INNOVATION
Across the courtyard from its Middle & Upper School counterpart, the Lower School D&I room gives our youngest creators a space of their own.

Campus Location

The Hub for Human Impact will be centrally located behind, and connected to, the Jacobs Family Library/Admin Building.

PROGRAMS

Together, by design.

PROGRAMS

We have intentionally designed our newest addition to be the hub where our most innovative programs collide.

Three Essential Capacities for Future Leaders

Conceptual Integration

Build cognitive flexibility to approach challenges from multiple perspectives.

1

Skill Transfer

Adaptability and creativity such as mathematical modeling in social sciences, engineering principles in art.

2

Real-world Relevance

Hands-on projects—designing cities, analyzing global conflicts, creating impact.

3

In The Hub for Human Impact, students push beyond the limits of traditional disciplines to develop the skills, mindset, and adaptability needed to lead in an ever-changing world.

Rather than compartmentalizing knowledge, interdisciplinary learning encourages students to engage with central themes and complex problems that span multiple programs.

  • Breaking Boundaries: Interdisciplinary learning connects knowledge across subjects

  • Critical Thinking: Students learn to navigate complexity and solve real-world problems

  • Future-Ready: Adaptive learning fosters leadership, curiosity, and innovation

The world’s most
pressing challenges
do not fit neatly
into subject categories.
Neither does
the future.

IMPACT

IMPACT

Real. Responsible. Ready.

Maya Krishnan ’24 didn’t just win science awards. She innovated with a purpose: to improve biosafety for healthcare workers. This is what it looks like to connect your knowledge and passion to your impact.

“The entrepreneurial mindset I developed at Country Day was new to most of my peers at MIT because their high schools did not have a similar curriculum. Because of LJCDS, I thrived at MIT and have now taken the Design and Innovation methodology into our business.”

LJCDS is ranked among the top 15 high schools in the nation for most engaged students in service and service hours recorded.

Invest in the future

INVEST

Anything is possible when we come together.

For 100 years, LJCDS has never stopped growing. Generation after generation, Torreys have developed into leaders of character through our mission of preparing individuals for a lifetime of learning and responsibility.

As we enter our next century, we honor this legacy of growth by coming together to create an inspiring space for students to build knowledge, leverage passion for purpose, and design a remarkable future.

The Hub builds on our most recent capital project, The Jacobs Family Library and Administration building. By investing in cutting-edge facilities and a groundbreaking combination of academic programs, we will help our students stay ahead of technological innovations and the challenges they will face throughout their lives.
